Stand-up Comedy Classes

by Scott Novotny

Stand-Up Comedy Classes for beginners and advanced instruction in Stand Up comedy and Improvisation. Offered in the Minnesota Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as Hudson and New Richmond in western Wisconsin.I have been teaching classes in stand-up comedy and improvisation for over twenty years. I always say to my students, ‘I wish that there was someone like ME around when I first started.’ I have met so many funny people in my life, many of whom would love to try their hand at stand-up comedy but have been either to afraid to do it, or just lack the means as to how to get their thoughts together. I say the world can never have enough comedians!
Stand-Up Comedy students study the art of comedy with teacher and professional comedian, Scott Novotny.
The old saying that ‘laughter is the best medicine’ is truly not without merit. It’s the best form of therapy that I know, (if not the cheapest!) and I feel blessed to be able to perform and teach the art of comedy.

Many of my students have gone on to become professional comedians and improvisational actors. Some names you might recognize are Stephanie Hodge (“Nurses” “UnHappily Ever After”), Gail Matthius (“Sat. Nite Live”), Trace Beaulieu (“Mystery Science Theater”), & working comedians Joe Keyes, Paul Kellehar, Paul Dillery, Chris Raine (all “Evening at the Improv” )

What students say...

Last fall, at age 57, I signed up for Scott's beginning stand-up class. I was convinced that I was too old, too scared, and too unfunny, but Scott was very reassuring so I gave it a try.  I found Scott to be an encouraging, supportive teacher who dignified the attempts of each student, regardless of talent or experience.  He took each of us from where we were and helped us develop our own individual styles. Because of Scott's class, I can more easily see the humor in everyday life, I am more confident on stage, and I now have a socially acceptable outlet for my outrageous side.  Not only did I learn that I really can do stand-up comedy, but I even received offers to be in two real comedy shows. Scott's class was a life-changing experience for me!
